Where do the Jews Live?

York is a large commuter campus and the majority of Jewish students live at home or in the areas surrounding York University.

Transportation in Toronto

York is also accessible by VIVA/YRT and GO. The subway is TTC.

Toronto Eruv

The Toronto Eruv is quite large and its boundaries change in different parts of the city. There is no Eruv south of Dupont and it extends north all the way to Major Mackenzie. Check out the detailed map at

Jewish Toronto

Toronto is one of the largest Jewish communities in North America. With more than 200,000 Jews, Jewish life is thriving. A complete directory of the Toronto Jewish community is available at: www.jewishtoronto. org/directory

Hillel is very fortunate to partner with the Orthodox Union/Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (OU/JLIC). JLIC strives to engage and educate Jewish students from varied backgrounds by providing avenues for spiritual development and exploration.

Kosher Food

York University is the only university in Canada that has a kosher restaurant on campus.

When looking for kosher food near York U there are many options to choose from! York Lanes has Qoola Frozen Yogurt Bar, for your sweet tooth and a kosher Second Cup for your caffeine fix. Hillel students love going to grab something dairy from either Pantry or Café Sheli. When they are craving our alltime favourite food group, sushi, they go to D Lites in Thornhill. There is also a kosher cafeteria located in Winters College called Country Style Kosher Deli, serving meals daily.

Jewish Friends on Campus

  • Jewish Learning Initiative On Campus
  • Hasbara York
  • Chabad York

The Jewish Russian Israeli Initiative, Jewski, is the group for Russian-speaking students on campus. It is designed to connect Russian-speaking students to each other as well as to the greater Jewish community on campus. Programs range from paid internships, social and cultural programming, “Novyy god” and holiday celebrations as well as an opportunity to participate in our elite J.Lead Training Program.

Once a Jewski, always a Jewski!

Campus offers exchange credits and has a great relationship with Hebrew U and Tel Aviv U.
